I finally upgraded my A/V Receiver!! I haven’t had a new receiver since 2005, and this Denon AVR-X6300H is a huge step up. Check out the unboxing video below as I have a few concerns about 4K HDR pass-through with this AVR, and that’s one of the features I want to test. This is last year’s model and the X6400H has hit the market, and I imagine it’s just as good as it’s X6300H sibling.

What’s up everybody! It’s Channa D here and I’ve got an unboxing for you today. It’s fairly large box and we are here in the living room. I’ve got the dining table right here. The box is on the dining table. And what we are checking out today is a Denon AVR-X6300H. So, we are getting into it after the jump!
Before we get started, go ahead drop down in the comments; do you use an AV Receiver with your 4k TV? Let me know, I want to know because I’m trying this out and hopefully it will pass through 4k TV, it will through the HDR, and that’s really what I’m testing out. I’m pretty excited because the last time I did get an A? Receiver was back in 2005. So, we are 2016, almost 2017 now, yea, it’s been a long time. So, yea, let’s do it. What are we waiting around for? Let’s do it.
This is what’s on the box: you’ll see a whole bunch of logos and icons. The most important one for me is this one right here, HDCP 2.2, 4k ultra HD. Of course, all the other ones matter. The HEOS, the core multi-room function deals with wireless speaker and stuffs, the Dolby ATMOS is really cool. The one thing that you do need to know, let’s kind of move up here, this is an 11.2 Channel Full 4K Ultra HD A/V Receiver with Bluetooth, WIFI and HEOS.
Oh yeah look at this, brand new. I love brand new stuffs, don’t you? Okay. Quick start guide, read me first, I might not actually have to do that. Alright, this is cool, an antenna, we have another, this is the tripod stand for the microphone. This is the microphone for sound calibration, that’s pretty cool. I don’t know how to pronounce this: AUDYSSEY, I don’t know. Next up we have the IEC power cable, two prong this time, not like 3 prong like in computers and stuffs. Next, we have the Denon remote, which reminds me, all the functions should be here. Some batteries. Oh my God, this is heavy. Look at that ladies and gentlemen! Alright, let’s get a close up view here with the I-Phone, look at this, it’s really nice. This just oozes quality. Denon is a phenomenon manufacturer for home theatre, home audio gear, their lasers and their blue ray players are. Some of the best in the world. We have some features at the top, 11.2 channel so the Dolby ATMOS adds four more speakers and that’s why it’s 11.2 channel.
So, here’s the front panel. Let’s take off the piece of tape here real quick. Okay, boom! Look at this, you’ve got 4K HDCP 2.2 HDMI port right here, you’ve got a charging USB panel here and standard RCA connector and the setup mic situation right there. You do have some options here for setting things up and maneuvering through the menu at the front panel however, the remote is always going to be better. This is your input selector here and this is your master volume. Wow! This is so nice and tech. Alright. So, I went ahead and plugged it in just to show you guys what the first turn on looks like, ‘AV SURROUND RECEIVER.’ Alright. So, turn cable/Sat stereo, DVD, Blu-ray, Game, AUX1, AUX2, Media Player, CD, HD Radio, Online Music, TV, Audio, Phono and back to CBL/SAT. Oh, it’s saying “Setup Assistant, Please use TV” sounds like a plan. Alright, we are going to get into that too.
Let’s take a look at the back panel for just a second. Here we are with the back panel ladies and gentlemen. Look at this, doesn’t this look amazing? This is awesome. Alright. First, let’s talk about the bottom here: here are all your speaker channels, okay, I should have 11, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,8, 9, 10, and 11. Okay, we have front-right, front-left, center, surround right, surround left. So, on a regular 5.1 setup, those are what you are going to use and that’s what I’m going to use here because I don’t have room for anything more. Okay, surround back-right, surround back-left, that adds those 2 channels, so that’s your 7.1, now, these four, height 1-right, height 1-left, height 2-right and height 2-left are for Dolby ATMOS configuration. Okay, I do not have that now so I’m kind of future proofing myself to get into a house so I can actually setup 7.1.4. Now, we’ve got an old school RCA for the phono with the ground right here, trigger out, I have no idea what that is, remote control, this is for using something like CD player, DVD, Blu-ray that are also Denon and you just hook it up with this and you can use everything from the Denon controls. Okay, now we have digital audio in both coaxial and optical, two of each, one could be coming from the TV or DVD player. Okay. Next up, we’ve got the regular the regular AM antenna and FM antenna on both sides here, this is for Bluetooth, WIFI antenna right there, Denon link HD, it’s another Denon proprietary connection. And here we have assignable audio in, you are going to sign in from whatever audio source to whatever audio source. Pretty cool. So, here are your pre-outs for everything here, your 11.2 right here and zone 2 and zone 3 to pipe music into a different room, if you have a different amplifier there, that’s what you can use. I will be using this one right here, subwoofer output right here. Okay, we’ve assignable video in, 2, assignable video out, this is all RCA of course, component video in, assignable and component video out. This top line I’m sure is what everybody is going to be focusing on. First here is the network cable. Alright, so, here on the top line we have 7 DDMI inputs and we have 3 HDMI outputs. Okay. This is awesome. Also, there are supposed to be 4K HDCP 2.2, I believe all of the ports are HDMI 2 out so they support 4K at 60 frames per second. Here’s the ARC, we’ll test that out and see how that goes. It’s audio return channel, my LG OLED does have that so we’ll check that out. Monitor 2 and zone 2, I was hoping to use this possibly to capture gameplay footage, we’ll see how that goes as well. Alright, so, there’s the back panel, I’m going to clean up the situation and get the old guy out and put this new guy in there.
Here’s the front of 3808 CI, pretty much the same. You know, this is just a little dusty, and then, here’s the new guy. One thing I didn’t notice which is really cool is the writing here, it’s got all these writing here, all those functions and features like that which is what this had like all along the bottom so they kind of made it hidden up here. Really nice touch there Denon, good job.
Now, here we are again, I have cleaned up the glass on this entertainment center and I’m about to put this bad boy in. Alright there, oh yeah. I put this here as an added support because 3808 felt a little bit heavier than this one but you know, that’s how technology goes, things are getting newer and lighter. Alright, I’ve got my clip speaker here, center channel back in place. Alright, let’s go round back and start hooking it up.
Alright. So, here we are ladies and gentlemen, I’ve got the 5 speakers plugged in and I’ve got the TV coming in audio from here, this digital is from IMAC, this is the video from the IMAC, it’s in AUX 2. In Blu-ray, I have the Xbox One S, I’ll put the PS4 in game. Cable/Satellite, I don’t have anything plugged in because my wife doesn’t use this so it goes straight to the TV. I do have this setup for ARC so I’ll get that go I and test that out. I’ll test it out both ways; the regular way with the digital audio coming from the TV or with the ARC so you guys can check it out if it works. The network cable I do have plugged in, my router is right here so I’m not really sure I need WIFI and I don’t want to put any antenna on this thing because I don’t just want to. Anyway that’s that.
So now, the most important thing is to check the HDR and the pass through so I want to put on FORZA and let’s see if we get that HDR in the upper right hand corner, and what’s the important the TV saying? Oh, I see HDR, I see HDR BT 2020, 2160p, fantastic! I am so excited right now, I can play in HDR. Once I get the PS4 hooked up here, then I only have one port on the TV that I will have to keep in HDR game mode, and there you go. Alright. Cool. Oh, this is coming through the stereo. Wow, this is so good on this OLED, it’s crazy.
